Waterfall Safety and Common Sense

There are a few unnamed Hetch Hetchy Waterfalls I thought might be interesting to point out.

These falls have been there each time I have visited Hetch Hetchy in the Spring so they certainly have a right to be labeled as legitimate (especially in comparison to less reliably flowing waterfalls in Yosemite that just to happen to be given names).

In one particular instance, we often observed that Tueeulala Fall can have less flow and longevity as one of the unnamed waterfalls on this page (see photo at the top of this page).

Looking up at the waterfall mislabeled as Tueeulala Fall on our Topo map

Oddly enough, even our topo map mislabeled the unnamed waterfall as Tueeulala Fall.

This particular waterfall is also noteworthy because it’s responsible for at least one stream crossing on the trail to Wapama Falls.

Another waterfall that comes to mind is a small but attractive cascade that spills right alongside the trail not long after leaving the tunnel on the Wapama Falls Trail.

This waterfall was made more attractive when the sun happened to strike its flow at the right angle making its plume glow in much the same way that occurs at Horsetail Falls without the firefall effect.

Other waterfalls we’ve noticed happened to be on the opposite side of the reservoir.

Those particular ones came and went and didn’t seem to be particularly photo-friendly.

In any case, I’m sure under high snowpack and warm weather, you might spot other waterfalls that escaped our attention or that weren’t flowing during our visits.
