Waterfalls in New York

New York Waterfalls were something we didn’t really expect to see prior to visiting the state. However, we’ve been fortunate enough to see a piece of such nature – especially in Upstate New York. Of course the biggest draw here is the granddaddy of them all – Niagara Falls. But there were also other waterfalls that impressed us like Taughannock Falls in the Finger Lakes area (one of the tallest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River) and Kaaterskill Falls. In fact, we had seen so many waterfalls in the state that we came up with our own Top 10 New York Waterfalls List

[expand title=”MORE” swaptitle=”LESS” trigpos=”below”]

Of course everyone knows about Niagara Falls (it not only made our Top 10 USA Waterfalls List but also our World’s Top 10), but part of what motivated us to want to visit the rest of upstate New York was to experience the waterfalls and the Nature outside of what everyone already knows. And in doing this, we felt that we were richly rewarded for stepping out of the obvious. As you can see from the map above, we have quite a few waterfall sightings to show for our efforts.

So such excursions led us to places like Letchworth State Park, where we witnessed the impressive Middle Falls of the Genesee River, the beautiful Watkins Glen, and the Cornell University-neighboring waterfall in Ithaca Falls.

Indeed, we also learned that waterfalling upstate New York in the Autumn provided additional benefits in the form of seeing Fall colors with the beautiful falls that dot the state. We even have a Top 10 Waterfalls with Fall Colors to honor those waterfalls that exhibited this property, and one of the falls in the state made that list. Indeed, we expect to continue to go waterfalling in this state as it’s blessed with so much to see and do outside of the bright lights of the city that never sleeps (i.e. New York City). Check out the table and links below to read more about the waterfalls that we can share so far…
