Waterfall Safety and Common Sense

The waterfall tandem of Stigfossen and Fjellfossen sat at the back of the communities of Myster and Eidslandet.

According to the old Norgesglasset, Stigfossen was the lower waterfall while Fjellfossen was the one higher up.

As much as I desired to more intimately experience both waterfalls with a hike, my experiences with them have been such that it’s really more of a roadside waterfall to look at.

In fact, the infrastructure here almost seemed as if it’s really just to be taken for granted.

I didn’t notice any formal pullouts as well as lots of private road signs closer to the end of the hamlet at Myster.

The photo you see above came from an informal pullout as I was heading into the hamlet of Eidslandet along the narrow county road Fv569 (see directions below).

On our first visit back in June 2005, we actually had to contend with pretty bad weather which impacted the experience even more.

Most of the better photos you see on this page pretty much came from the second visit in 2019 under much better weather.

So as much of high hopes that I had for this pair of waterfalls, I’d personally not go out of the way to see them.

However, they do happen to be close to both Hesjedalsfossen and the lovely rural town of Mo i Modalen.

So I’d treat these waterfalls as more of a side attraction to these other things that are worth spending more time at.
