Waterfall Safety and Common Sense

The Southern Ring Road Waterfalls page is where I’m putting the multitude of waterfalls that we’ve noticed while driving the Ring Road, especially in the stretch between Selfoss and Skaftafell. This page is essentially my way of trying to convey to you how waterfalls are plentiful in just this region alone. Note that I’m intentionally excluding the major waterfalls with names because they have their own pages on this website.

Generally how I’ve determined whether a waterfall got its own page or not largely depended on whether it looked very light-flowing and temporary (a subjective measure, I know), whether I knew what its name was (assuming it was named), and whether there was infrastructure like signs or car parks indicating that the waterfall was legitimate in the eyes of the authorities here.

I’m fully aware that what’s captured here is merely a partial collection of the waterfall sightings we experienced (i.e. only the ones we’ve noticed and stopped for) which I’m sure is only a fraction of how many more we could’ve stopped for and checked out. I had to admit that after a while, even waterfall lovers like ourselves started becoming blase about them.
