About Skogvann Waterfall
The Skogvann Waterfall was another one of those waterfalls that I hadn’t planned on noticing nor stopping for.
But it had enough of an impressive flow that I made it a point to pause for it.
Such was the effect of driving into Swedish Lapland between Narvik, Norway and Björkliden.
While there was infrastructure fronting this waterfall, it appeared that whatever it was that was here (a farm? a cafe or lodging?), it wasn’t operational though I did show up on a Sunday.
So I used the large clearing or car park there to stop the car (see directions below), then stretch out my legs while checking out this imposing waterfall.
Nearby this facility and the waterfall was the Skogvatnet, where the unnamed stream drained the Lomtjønna over the waterfall and drained into it along with the main river (which I think is called Urdalselva).
In any case, this waterfall didn’t seem to have a formal name even though I felt it might have better flow than some of the named ones.
The Skogvann Waterfall resides in the Narvik Municipality. For information or inquiries about the area as well as current conditions, visit their website.
From Narvik, the most straightward way (i.e. paying tolls) would be to headed north on the E6 for a little over 7km as the road crosses over the long bridge over the Rombaken.
Shortly after the bridge, the E6 junctioned with the E10, which I then turned right to go east. Note there was another toll in this stretch of the E10.
From there, I’d follow the E10 for about 24km where there was a clearing on the left side of the road at the hamlet of Skogvann.
This drive would typically take about a half-hour.
For geographic context, Narvik was about 104km (about 75 minutes drive) northwest of Kiruna, Sweden, 231km (over 3 hours drive) south of Tromsø, 248km (about 4 hours drive with a ferry crossing) north of Fauske, 424km (about 6.5 hours drive with a ferry crossing) north of Mo i Rana, and 482km (under 7 hours drive) south of Alta.
