About Sagfossen and the Rullestad Waterfalls
Sagfossen was a conspicuous waterfall that we spotted while driving the E134 between Skarre and the nearby Langfossen Waterfall.
Back when Julie and I first noticed this waterfall, we didn’t realize that it had a name.

In fact, we thought it was one of those miscellaneous waterfalls that seemed to be all over Norway no matter where you look.
Such common sightings really made me question our approach to how we write about the waterfalls in Norway.
That’s because such waterfalls that are taken for granted in the country would otherwise be more well known or have infrastructure for visitation.
In any case, while this waterfall gave us the reason to pull over and take a look, there was actually a nearby gorge called Rullestadjuvet, which was said to feature impressive potholes and more chutes of water.
We didn’t get a chance to visit that area, but it’s certainly something we’ll be sure to check out if we’re fortunate to make another return trip here.

As it is, Sagfossen tumbled on the Sagelva, which drained an extensive plateau full of tarns and lakes between Sauda and Røldal.
For a taste of what it was like within that plateau, we drove through that area on our first visit to Norway back in June 2005, and we have a write-up for it here.
Rullestadvatnet also had other streams with cascading waterfalls spilling into it, but they were of the much thinner variety.
Still, they added to the overall backdrop, and I could see why a camping area had been designated right on the shores of the lake here.
