About Boyabreen Waterfalls
The Boyabreen Waterfalls (more accurately called Bøyabreen) was my way of paying homage to the collection of waterfalls we saw around the popular Bøyabreen Glacier.
Of all the glaciers where we could get somewhat close to its terminus, this one was probably the easiest one to access, and I’d imagine that’s the main reason for its popularity.

Julie and I first noticed this glacier as we were driving the Rv5 through the Fjærland area, which was skimming the southern end of the vast icefield of Jostedalsbreen National Park.
However, we didn’t actually visit the Bøyabreen Glacier until we came back to Norway in 2019, and that was when we paid closer attention to the handful of waterfalls in the vicinity.
Once we found the turnoff leading to Bøyabreen (see directions below), we had a choice of parking in one of the public spaces by the turnoff, or driving another 300m to a closer car park.
The advantage to walking the extra 300m was the ability to look around at the waterfalls lining the head of the Bøyadalen Valley.

Beyond the closer car park (which was for the Brævasshytta), we walked another 200m or so to get right to the shore of the Brevatnet and an unobstructed view of the terminus of the Bøyabreen Glacier.
While none of the waterfalls appeared to have names (except for Oksafossen which according to Norgeskart was on the west side of the Rv5), it was fascinating to see though it followed a pattern of waterfalls replacing former locations of receding glaciers.
Indeed, we witnessed this phenomenon twice before on our 2019 trip to Norway at Briksdalsbreen and Kjenndalsbreen so by the time we got to Bøyabreen, we weren’t really that surprised anymore.
Anyways, we wound up spending a little less than an hour away from the car, but we also ate at the cafe at Brævasshytta.

So I could easily foresee this place being just a real quick stop.
