Waterfall Safety and Common Sense

“Storfossen” was an informal name we chose to associate with this rather obscure, wispy yet attratively tall waterfall in the moors of Suldal (near the lake Mosvatnet, which I think is pronounced “MOOS-vat-nuh”) just to the southeast of Sand.

I got the name of the falls from my waterfall collecting friend named Olaf Helwig, who posted it on his worldwidewaterfalls.com website a few years before our trip in June 2005.

In fact, I probably wouldn’t even have bothered to look for this waterfall if it wasn’t for him.

In any case, it seemed like this falls was really more for waterfall collectors as there didn’t seem to be any dedicated infrastructure for it.

It was almost as if it was one of those waterfalls that was taken for granted as just another dime-a-dozen-type waterfall that would blend in with the rest of the majestic natural beauty of Norway.

And given its apparently light flow, I reckon it would probably dry up not deep into the Summer if it hadn’t rained for a while.

There was actually another waterfall I was targeting in the Hjorteland area, but after that little detour yielded only a modest unremarkable waterfall sighting, “Storfossen” was the best one of this little side excursion that I went on.
