Tengsfossen

Tengsfossen was a waterfall that Julie and I stumbled upon accidentally.

We actually mistook this waterfall for a different waterfall called Fotlandsfossen as we actually sought out Fotlandsfossen originally.

It wasn’t until a visitor corrected me did I finally realize that it wasn’t Fotlandsfossen all along.

In any case, Tengsfossen helped us break up the long driving as we were trying to get from Kristiansand to Sand (in Rogaland County).

It turned out to be a short but attractively wide river-type waterfall that was segmented based on rocks that had split the Bjerkreim River’s flow (Bjerkreimselva).

Incidentally, this river was said to be one of the most bountiful and important salmon rivers in Norway.

Although we didn’t pay attention to it, there was apparently a salmon ladder to allow the salmon to continue further upstream beyond the falls.

Julie and I found this obscure waterfall as we parked the car near the Fotlandsbakken sign near the town of Egersund (see directions below).

Beckoned by the sounds of rushing water, we walked southwards along the east side of the local road until we saw an obvious path leading closer to the river.

After a few minutes of walking through a well-shaded area, we ended up on the rocky banks of the Bjerkreim River with this short waterfall in sight.

During our trip here in June 2005, we never found Fotlandsfossen, and to this day, we still don’t know its whereabouts.
