Waterfall Safety and Common Sense

Uru’s Waterfall (or Urus Waterfall) was an interesting roadside waterfall that we noticed the local villagers liked to use as a swimming hole.

It tumbled down multiple smaller tiers with pools at the base of each tier. Visiting this waterfall was supposed to be very straightforward and easy as there was an easy-to-follow trail behind a gate right off the road. However, nobody was attending the gate when we arrived.

Luckily, a local Fijian boy realized I was visiting the waterfall and actually showed me a way to scramble underneath the road bridge and to the bottom of the falls (thereby bypassing that gate).

It wasn’t the easiest scramble (as it was slippery in spots though I was amazed that the villager was able to do it so confidently barefoot), but the boy did help me with choosing the proper route. Otherwise, I wasn’t sure I would’ve known about or even tried this scramble.
