About Lower Waikani Falls
Waikani Falls (sometimes I find it easier to think of it as Lower Waikani Falls) sits further downstream from the more famous “Three Bears.”
In our experience, this waterfall was best seen when it was raining. When the rains were gone, the flow quickly diminished significantly thereby making it hardly worth the stop.
Trespassing for a Better View?
Forget it. The Wailua Settlement, where it seemed the best views of the falls would be, was a residential area where none of the residents appreciated visitors as evident with the plethora of No Trespassing signs.
Over the years, it seemed like there were more homes so the views got further and further away (typically over someone’s house like in the photo at the top of this page or directly below).

So given this trend in making this waterfall less appealing to see, I’d consider this basically for waterfall collectors.
That said, I have to admit that it does look impressive when it’s pumping (like it did during our September 2003 visit).
Authorities
To my knowledge, Lower Waikani Falls does not fall under an official authority’s jurisdiction. However, for information or inquiries about the general area as well as current conditions, you may want to try visiting the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) website.
