Waterfall Safety and Common Sense

Zillie Falls was another of the trio of waterfalls on the 17km Waterfall Circuit on the looping Theresa Creek Rd. Julie and I saw this one right after we saw Ellinjaa Falls during our May 2008 trip. And as far as we were concerned, visiting this waterfall was pretty straightforward as there was a very short walk across the road from the car park (see directions below) that led right to an overlook area providing the top down view you see at the top of this page. That was as far as the short walk would allow us to go, and I don’t think there was a way to get down to the base of the falls safely.

Although it was pretty easy to see this waterfall, we were left wondering whether we could have improved the views somewhat because the bottom portion of the falls always seemed to have some foliage blocking our line-of-sight. In any case, we spent about 15 minutes away from the car as this was pretty much a roadside waterfall for all intents and purposes.

Zillie Falls was about 2.4km north of the Ellinjaa Falls car park along the looping Theresa Creek Rd or about 8km east of Millaa Millaa Falls going in the other direction.

The turnoff at the east end of Theresa Creek Rd was about 53km west of the start of the Palmerston Hwy in Innisfail. The turnoff at the west end of Theresa Creek Rd was about 1km further west on the Palmerston Hwy (literally at the northeast end of the town of Millaa Millaa).

For geographical context, Innisfail was 88km (over an hour drive) south of Cairns and 260km (3 hours drive) north of Townsville.
