Train up (Flamsbana) and bike down the mountain!

submitted by _Anonymous80 on August 11, 2011

The World of Waterfalls has been to this waterfall, which you can read about here.

Our group – three adults – two kids – took the train up and biked down the mountain last week (August 1 2011).

We rented bikes – next to the train station – which are loaded on the train with you. Up at Myrtle you get off and bike down 22 kilometers. I have to warn you that the first 2 kilometers of the bike trail are very rough and you would be smart to wear a pair of good walking/hiking shoes and walk the bike until you get on smooth trail and ashphalt (because the trail is gravel, steep and rocky at the beginning). After the first 2 kilometers, the rest of the bike journey was pure joy!

Pack a bottle of water and a small snack or fruit so you have an excuse for pulling off the trail to enjoy the stunning views. Also, pack a small umbrella to stay dry in the event of heavy rain. (Stunning waterfalls need rain, so sometimes a hard rain shower pops up and an umbrella keeps you from getting soaked.)

The ride downhill took about 2-2.5 hours (including the walking). Tons of fun. The total cost was US $130 per person, including the train and the bike rental). I hadn’t biked in 20 years and it was no problem. Sailing down the mountain on a bike was the highlight of my journey. Something I will never forget. It’s expensive, but worth it!

Anyone identified the music that is played at the waterfall? It’s hauntingly beautiful. I’d love to know where I could get a copy!
