Only 1 of 7 or 8 (Eaton Canyon Fall)

submitted by Paul on February 16, 2012

The World of Waterfalls has been to this waterfall, which you can read about here.

I used to hike Eaton Canyon in the early 70’s. The falls you are showing here is only one of seven or eight.

Don’t know if it’s still there but years ago there were some old wooden stairs that went 3/4 up the side of the canyon. At the top of the stairs was a tunnel that had a 12 inch water pipe running down the middle of the tunnel floor. The tunnel wasn’t tall enough for the average adult to stand up in, so you had to walk about 100 yards, bent over, straddling the pipe.

Once you got to the other side of the tunnel you were now at the creek level again. If you turned left it was a short distance to 2nd falls. The only way to get around 2nd falls was to slide down a 10 ft. trough that was naturally cut into the rock. At the end of the trough was a 20 ft fall to a pool below. I never took the plunge at 2nd fall because the only way out was to either make the treacherous climb up and over the canyon wall or to continue down the creek and jump off 1st falls.

If you turned right you came to 3rd falls which was a stair step of two troughs, cut into the granite rock that spilled lazily into a shallow pool. Fun place to hang out.
