Long time visitor (Sturtevant Falls)

submitted by _Anonymous205 on January 23, 2015

This post was in response to Sturtevant Falls

I grew up in El Monte Ca during a time when the city was spending a goodly amount of money on the parks service basically having all the parks staffed daily during the summer by college student whose main job was to organize activities for us kids.

I lived by Fletcher park….we called ourselves the Fletcher park River Rats.(next to the Rio Hondo).

We used to take day trips to many locations – this was one of them. We would go several times a summer. Prior to that I was a cub scout and went a few time w my dad.

This hike got me to love the outdoors and I started back packing in my teens and have hiked most of the San Gabriels, San Bernadinos and San Jacintos. This hike however is one of the best for the person who does not want to commit a long drive and a long hike to see a fantastic riverine scene. I took my grown kids recently .(Never took them as kids as we did other things). They were amazed that such a quiet spot of immense peace and tranquility was only a 15 min drive from the Freeway.

This hike can be made by nearly anyone w 2 good feet.
