Cook Islands

Waterfalls in the Cook Islands

Click for the interactive map

The Cook Islands Waterfalls provided Julie and I a waterfalling excuse to explore this particular slice of tropical paradise. Indeed, the Cook Islands encompass many small islands and atolls providing a more laid back and smaller scale resort destination than some of its counterparts like Tahiti and Fiji among others.

However, it’s because most of the islands are low-lying and lack the topography necessary for a waterfall (i.e. high mountains to attract and maintain rain producing clouds) that we’re only aware of one waterfall in this country. That lone waterfall is the Wigmore’s Waterfall on the main island of Rarotonga. So while the islands and lagoons have much to offer for the holidaymaker, waterfallers don’t really have much to choose from (at least from what we could tell).

I guess in a way, it kind of forces you to look at the beauty in Nature that isn’t waterfall-related. And in my mind, that’s not necessarily a bad thing…
