Waterfalls in Minnesota

The Minnesota Waterfalls that we encountered were pretty much concentrated along the eastern part of the state. We managed to visit a handful of them from as far south as the twin cities of Minneapolis-Saint Paul and as far north as its international border with Canada right off the North Shore of Lake Superior. Many of the waterfalls that we had the time to visit were amongst the most impressive waterfalls we had seen on our Autumn 2015 trip to the Great Lakes. And we felt it was a shame that we had to leave some other waterfalls out of the trip as there were simply too many to see and too little time.

Among the waterfalling highlights of our visit here included Minnehaha Falls, Gooseberry Falls, and High Falls of the Pigeon River, which was one of the new transnational waterfalls we’re aware of. Yet there were so many other roadside waterfalls that we simply didn’t have the time to stop for so we feel like we need a return trip to take our time and properly sample more of the best of the natural sights that the state of Minnesota has to offer.

As for some of the non-waterfalling attractions, both Julie and Tahia were very attracted to the Mall of America. This massive indoor mall also housed an indoor amusement park, which Tahia thought was the highlight of our Great Lakes Trip. We also managed to catch most of the eclipse of the moon while staying in the city of Duluth, which itself featured an attractive Canal Park full of history as well as a nice lakefront walk that took in a pretty lighthouse as well as some some interesting shipwrecks and ruins.
