About Bride’s Veil Waterfall
The Brides Veil Waterfall (or Bride’s Veil Waterfall) was a roadside waterfall that was a worthwhile photo stop not only because it was an attractive cascade that can be composed in many different ways in a photograph, but it also had a few other things going for it. For example, it was also within view of the eccentric Old Man Storr, which was a rock formation protruding apart from the larger group of rocky hills called The Storr. And while the falls was easily viewable from the pullout (or layby as they say in the UK), it was worth the short climb to get up to the top of the falls to take in the views of the mountains further inland as well as views back out towards Loch Leathan. My only regret was not having the presence of mind to scramble to the other side of the falls and compose a photograph showing both the Bride’s Veil with the Old Man Storr in one frame.
As for the short scramble up, it was pretty straightforward. The only catch was that there was a lot of muddy spots where it could get a bit slippery and messy without the right footwear or without choosing wisely where to plant your foot. It was only by doing this scramble was it possible to pay closer attention to the motion of the water snaking its way down towards the sound, and I’d imagine that many of the Webshots or other stock photos we had encountered well before us coming to the Isle of Skye in late August 2014 must have done just that when they composed their partial photographs of the Bride’s Veil Waterfall.
Finally, we somehow missed this waterfall when we were driving north from Portree to Kilt Rock, but when we were headed back to Portree from Kilt Rock, the waterfall was hard to miss. Overall, it took us about 45 minutes to take in the whole experience, including all the picture taking and the scrambling. But we very easily could’ve taken far less time or spend quite a bit more time here. Like with the many ways one could capture their own experiences here, the same goes for how one could spend their time here as well.
