Waterfall Safety and Common Sense

Upper North Falls was a pretty compact but classically rectangular-shaped 65ft waterfall. We easily reached this waterfall after a short walk of about 0.2 miles (each way, I recaled) along the creek responsible for the falls itself. The trail to the falls began by crossing the bridge near the trailhead (see directions below) in much the same way as North Falls before reaching a fork. This time however, we turned right at this fork and went under the bridge.

One thing that struck us about the trail that went under the bridge was that it looked close enough to the creek and was fronted by gates that were open during our visit that it made us suspect this part was prone to flooding if the creek was running too high and would inundate the trail. Fortunately for us, it wasn’t closed and we were able to continue a few minutes further upstream to the view of the falls that you see above.

Of all the waterfalls on the Trail of Ten Falls, this was the only one where we had to treat it like an out-and-back hike since the trail reached a dead-end at the falls. There was no way to continue going in a loop. And overall, Julie and I spent about 25 minutes in total away from the car to do the out-and-back excursion.
