Waterfall Safety and Common Sense

Drake Falls was a pretty diminutive 27ft falls requiring us to stand on an overlooking viewing deck protruding from the cliff to get a view of it. We found this one about 0.2 miles past the Middle North Falls turnoff. This was really just a waterfall for collectors as there were still two more waterfalls another 0.2 miles further downstream.

To our knowledge, we don’t think there was a way to get closer to the waterfall (at least one that was official). Then again, we didn’t really bother to try since we didn’t think it would’ve been worth the effort anyways had there been an informal scramble to it.

We started the hike that encompassed this waterfall from the Winter Falls trail. It’s about a mile or so walk from the trailhead to the falls.

As for the geographical context, Portland was 42 miles (an hour drive) north of Silverton and 47 miles (also an hour drive) north of Salem.
