About Spahats Falls
Spahats Falls (I’ve also seen it referred to as Spahats Creek Falls) was a tall waterfall pouring out of a narrow hanging gorge and into a wider gorge. It was said to be 60m in height, but one thing was for sure. We definitely had a little sense of vertigo given how we were constantly looking down into the gorge from the fenced nature walk around the main gorge’s rim.
The narrow hanging gorge from which the falls came out of was what struck Julie and I as unique about this waterfall. It was almost as if someone decided to fold the rocks into a very narrow V-shape, then let water feed into it so show off what would happen as the water came out of the fold.
Adding to the mood of our experience was the presence of patchy low-lying fog making it seem like we were some place high up. It almost had that Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon quality to it.
From the fairly big car park, it was merely a 5- to 10-minute walk through a narrow grove of forest before reaching the gorge rim where the walk then followed to our right eventually reaching the viewing deck. It was from the viewing deck where we were able to get the full view of the falls as other vantage points along the rim had various obstructions to the view.
