Broken Back

submitted by Caryn Miller on December 3, 2008

This post was in response to California

My boyfriend was hiking with several of his friends in November 1975. The water at that time was deep and the waterfall was flowing. He went to jump over the falls and lost his footing on the moss and went down the falls facing outward. He landed face down in the water and broke both of his legs and hips.

One of his friends went down into the water to roll him over to keep from drowning and this broke his spinal cord. My boyfriend said he could feel the loss of feeling in his legs leaving.

My boyfriend had to be helicoptered out of the area and was taken to UCLA where he underwent surgery. He has never regained the use of his legs from this accident. He is now 50 years old.
