In the second half of 2012 members of the local community around Toora, and nearby towns, came together to form the “Friends of Agnes Falls Inc”.
After much letter writing, meetings, and liaison with Parks Victoria, the South Gippsland Shire Council, and a number of State Government politicians, the group was recently successful in obtaining A$180,000 grant funding, from the Victorian State Government, via the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority, to the auspicing body, Parks Victoria, for improvements to be undertaken at the Scenic Reserve.
It is hoped that, by Christmas 2013, there will be a new toilet block built alongside the carpark, new picnic tables installed, and a picnic shelter/information rotunda, new signage, and more.
It is also hoped that a soil and rock study will be undertaken regarding the future feasibility and construction of a cantilever extension to one of the current viewing points!
As well as this most generous funding the group was also successful in receiving a Shire Council Grant of $7000 for an Economic Impact Study, and through the local Toora and Foster branches of the Bendigo Bank, Community Bank branches, $500 sponsorship for a large Display Banner and 2500 informative promotional postcards for local distribution.
The “Friends of Agnes Falls” are delighted!
