There are two waterfalls to see in close proximity on the Waterfall & Goldmine Trail in the Coed y Brenin Forest in North Wales. From the Forestry Commission car park the circular walk of about 3 miles follows the Afon Mawddach River to its confluence with the Afon Cain through a beautiful wooded valley on good paths.
The pretty Pistyll Cain fall is on the tributary river Cain and tumbles 65ft over a terraced rock cliff. The fall is easily viewed from an iron bridge located just in front of it.
The second waterfall named Rhaeadr Mawddach is on the main river a little further on. This fall is not quite as tall as its neighbour but has a greater water flow. Just below the fall are the remains of the Gwynfynydd Goldmine. The English Royal family traditionally have wedding rings made from Welsh gold.
