About Winter Falls
Winter Falls plunged audibly when it was flowing beneath the Rim Trail portion of the Trail of Ten Falls. It had a dedicated car park, which came in handy as we visited the majority of the Silver Falls State Park waterfalls from this trailhead. This particular waterfall was said to fall and tumble from a height of about 134ft though it was difficult to capture the whole falls without a very wide angle lens.
I suspected that the name came from the fact that it might be primarily a Winter waterfall. However, that didn’t mean that the waterfall wouldn’t be flowing in the Spring months. In fact, it had the benefit of pretty healthy rain during our March visit in 2009. Towards the bottom of the initial descent, we were able to get somewhat frontal views of the falls but then the flanking trees alongside the trail got in our line of sight.
